To say in brief Refrigerator is a cooling device that uses a thermally insulated interior box and a “heat pump” which extracts the heat from the inside of the fridge and keeps it cool. The heat is removed by chemical or mechanical action. By keeping the interior cold it helps to keep the food kept inside the refrigerator fresh for a long time and prevents it from getting infested with bacteria.
The fridge has two sections. The ‘refrigerator’ maintains a temperature much below normal but few degrees above the freezing point of water. The other compartment called ‘freezer’ holds the temperature below the freezing point of water and the water stored here becomes ice. Also food can be stored here for a longer time.
